If it was an Oscar Night, the media would be having a hard time interviewing the VIP’s on the red carpet because there were a lot of them. The Victorias Coliseum was filled with Barangay and Local Officials from the Third District of Negros Occidental, Mayors and Legislators from all over the province. Well, who would want to miss occasions like this? Even I postponed my flight to Manila from Thursday to Saturday just to be there.
The Oath Taking was not only a thanksgiving for the victory of the Elected Congressman but as well as for the District especially his hometown Victorias City. Cong. Albee B. Benitez is the first Congressman from the V-City and the first in the District to have such clear and modernized visions for his constituents. No less than our beloved Mayor Vero Palanca, Former Mayor and mother of Victorias Remedios Bantug (who is also Albee’s Grandmom) were there to witness this affair. The Bantug-Palanca family headed by Tito Rey Bantug and Tita Cynthia Regino were there too, to show support for Cong. Albee and witness the occasion as well.
The mass celebrated by Fr. Gargar started at 10:00 and was immediately followed by the Oath taking. Mrs. Dominique “Nikki” Lopez-Benitez accompanied her beloved husband on stage for the Oath. The Congressman then went on with his inaugural speech. In return, Gov. Elect Alfredo Maranon – who will also take oath tomorrow, spoke before the crowd and welcomed Cong. Albee in the Negros Political Arena.
The sumptuous luncheon catered by Misyel’s was superb…I filled my stomach with Lengua and a lot of different salads.
Later on, the Congressman moved around each table for pictorial sessions. He spoke to his constituents about future projects and programs.
Some of the officials I can remember to have seen were: Gov. Maranon. Congressman Ferrer and Congresswoman Alvarez, Board Members Patrick Lacson and Bading Escalante, Mayors Palanca, Saratan, Oti Montelibano, Andrew Montelibano, David Lacson, Magdaleno Pena, Patrick Escalante and a whole lot more.
It was indeed a splendid afternoon, aside from the Manny Pacquiao Limited Edition cards I got from Cong. Albee, it was only me who got the copy of his speech… and I’m posting it..
Thank Cong. I really like your speech it. For me, it was clear and concise, sincere and realistic, and truly in pursuit of your commitment to serve. Mabuhay ka!!!
